More Pressure on Congressman Jefferson
The pressure on Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson (D-LA) was turned up this afternoon when his caucus leader asked him to resign from the powerful House Ways and Means committee.
In a prepared release, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said ""In the interest of upholding the high ethical standard of the House Democratic Caucus, I am writing to request your immediate resignation from the Ways and Means Committee."Congressman Jefferson who has steadfastly defended himelf, continued that self defense and said the would not resign from the committee "...that is so vital to New Orleans...for any uncertain, longterm political strategy." www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/24/raid.on.congress.ap/index.html.
